The Lonely Warrior

It feels incredible to receive birthday gifts at this age especially from the people I least expected. My mum used to say, “It’s not easy for people to love, so if they love you, treat them well.”

Friendship is strange. Some of those who wished me this year weren’t even the ones I’d consider “close.” When my mum passed, many friends saw the news, but most didn’t offer any condolences. Ironically, my ex did, as did someone who had completely cut ties with me.

Six months on, I’ve come to realise: when people you know choose not to show kindness or support, it’s often a conscious decision. Deep down, they may want to see you fall. They’re quick to applaud your failures. People can be cruel; not because they’re evil, but because they don’t understand what love truly is. If they did, they wouldn’t behave the way they do.

Stay away from these kinds of people no matter how cool, influential, or charming they seem. It’s better to walk alone with clarity like a warrior than to follow a crowd that leads you astray, like a sheep in the flock. Because when the flock disappears, the lost sheep becomes easy prey.
